Grid Line Practice

Description

Line control and spacing precision are enhanced by this exercise. I'll help you become more adept at judging distance with your eyes and staying consistent with repeated strokes.

A grid that is drawn evenly on a page

Evenly spaced grid drawn across a page

Steps

  1. Draw a number of horizontal, parallel lines across the paper. To create a grid, add vertical lines that intersect them.
  2. Try to maintain the same amount of space between lines. The grid should cover the full page.

Advice

  • Maintain uniform spacing; use your eyes rather than a ruler.
  • For every line, use bold, single strokes.
  • If necessary, rotate the page to keep your arms moving comfortably. Don't fix errors; instead, keep going.
