Description
Train your eye for proportion by drawing a shape and then copying it as closely as you can. This exercise builds comparison skills, improves accuracy, and helps you notice angle and length relationships more clearly.
Steps
- Draw a simple random shape using mostly straight lines
- Leave a small gap, then draw the same shape again from observation
- Compare the two shapes and look for differences in angles, lengths, and overall proportion
- Try again with a new shape
- Fill the page with several pairs
Tips
- Start with simple shapes before moving to more complex ones
- Compare the biggest proportions first, then smaller details
- Keep your lines deliberate instead of sketching over them repeatedly
- If something looks off, note the mistake and fix it on the next attempt rather than overworking the drawing
