Tracing Practice

tracingaccuracyobservationfoundation

Description

Develop your hand-eye coordination and observational accuracy by tracing complex forms. This exercise uses a split-screen approach: observe the reference on one side and attempt to replicate it on the other. Use the "Done" button to reveal the reference as an overlay and check your accuracy.

Steps

  1. Observe the reference image on the left (or top on mobile).
  2. Replicate the image by drawing on the right (or bottom) canvas. Focus on capturing the main silhouettes and proportions.
  3. Click the Check (✓) button when you are finished.
  4. An overlay of the original image will appear at 50% opacity over your drawing.
  5. Use the EDIT button to hide the overlay and refine your work, or click TRY ANOTHER to load a new image and start fresh.

Tips

  • Don't rush into details. Start with the large shapes first.
  • Use the overlay as a diagnostic tool, not a "cheat." Identify where your proportions deviated most.
  • Try to "feel" the distance and angles as you move your stylus or finger.
  • Re-drawing the same image multiple times is a great way to build muscle memory.
